THE DEPARTMENT of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has recommended that the ban on deploying Filipino workers to Nigeria be lifted starting Jan. 1 in view of the improvement of the security situation in the African country, the DFA announced yesterday.
"We have reviewed the overall security situation in Nigeria and have concluded that the insurgency in the Niger Delta has been properly addressed," the agency said in a statement, quoting the letter DFA Secretary Albert F. del Rosario sent to Labor secretary Rosalinda D. Baldoz yesterday.

"No more kidnapping incidents have occurred and Nigeria has become a vibrant democracy with a thriving economy. According to our ambassador in Nigeria, 5,000 jobs in the oil, gas and construction industries are awaiting our OFWs in Nigeria," the letter read.
