This was disclosed recently in Abuja by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on MDGs (SSAP-MDGs), Dr. Precious Kalamba Gbeneol, who stated that the intervention would be focused on health and education sectors.

Gbeneol further disclosed that over 25 million Nigerians would benefit from the initiative of which each of the 113 LGAs is expected to get N200 million to fast-track the achievement of the MDGs, as well as build a sustainable foundation for effective service delivery in local communities.

She said: "In addition to the funds available under the Conditional Grants to States (CGS), funding has been set aside for interventions targeted at one Local Government in each Senatorial Districts (3 LGs per State) and two LGAs hosting the United Nations Millennium Villages Project making 113 LGs in total. This means that 25 million people will benefit from the initiative."
