The Nigerian House of Representatives on Thursday lent its voice to the
outpouring of agitations and condemnations trailing the N922 billion
allocated to security in the 2012 budget proposal by the Federal
Government.

The lower chamber said the sum, close to a trillion naira, was rather “on the
high side.”  Out of the proposal, education came a distant second with
N400.15 billion, health, N282.77 billion with works, N180.8 billion among
others.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, Chairman of the House
Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Zakari Mohammed hinted that the
huge sum may be cut, and moved to other critical areas like power and
agriculture among others.
